Payroll & HR Software · 2026 reliability ranking
Most Reliable Payroll & HR Software (2026)
We ranked 16 payroll & HR platforms by real-world reliability over the last 90 days, using 65 status page incidents and our own around-the-clock uptime checks. Payroll runs on hard deadlines: if the platform is down on the day a pay run has to be approved, direct deposits can land late, tax filings can miss their window and employees may need to be paid by manual check. Outages also block employees from viewing pay stubs, requesting time off or completing onboarding paperwork, which turns into support calls for the owner. Because a missed or duplicated payroll is costly to unwind, a provider's service history is worth checking before you move your payroll to it.

- If you use time tracking, check incidents affecting the integration that imports hours.
- Make sure the vendor emails or texts you about incidents, so you aren't caught out on payroll day.

How do you measure payroll & HR platform reliability?
We poll each vendor's public status page every few minutes, record every incident, and run our own uptime checks against each vendor's login and customer-facing pages. Uptime (40%), incident frequency (20%), average time to resolve (20%) and transparency (20%) combine into one score out of 100.
How often are these rankings updated?
Continuously. Status pages and uptime checks run every five minutes and scores are recalculated several times an hour.

No. Sponsored placements are clearly labelled, shown separately from the rankings and never change a vendor's score.
