Independent reliability rankings

Find the most reliable software for your business

Outage trackers tell you when something is down right now. We tell you which vendor goes down least. We track every vendor's status page, run our own uptime checks around the clock, and rank them on uptime, incident frequency, time to resolve and how honestly they report outages.

About UptimeRankings.com

UptimeRankings ranks business software by how reliable it really is. When you choose a POS system, a payment processor or a booking platform, every vendor promises excellent uptime. We check. We record every incident vendors publish on their status pages, run our own uptime checks around the clock, and turn the results into independent rankings for each category.

The site is built for small business owners and the people who choose software for them, because an outage costs more than the subscription saves. Use the rankings to shortlist the most reliable software for your business, the vendor reports to see a provider's full outage history, and the head-to-head comparisons to decide between two finalists.

Why software reliability matters for small businesses

For a small business, software downtime isn't an IT problem. It's lost revenue, unhappy customers and staff standing around. What an outage costs depends on what you run:

How we're different from outage trackers

Track records, not snapshots

Outage trackers show what's broken right now. We keep every incident and every check, so you can compare 90 days of reliability before you sign a contract.

Two independent data sources

Status pages tell us what vendors admit to. Our own uptime checks catch the outages that never make it onto the status page.

Honesty counts

A fifth of every score is transparency: how often a vendor acknowledges the outages we detect. Hiding problems lowers a vendor's ranking.

How the reliability score works

  1. Uptime (40%). Effective uptime over 90 days, with each incident weighted by severity: a full outage counts in full, degraded performance only partly.
  2. Incident frequency (20%). How often things go wrong, normalised to a 30-day rate.
  3. Time to resolve (20%). The average time from the start of an incident to its fix.
  4. Transparency (20%). How often the vendor acknowledges outages our own checks detect. Vendors without a public status page score zero here.

The same published formula applies to every vendor. Rankings are never for sale: sponsored placements are clearly labelled, shown separately and never change a score.

Frequently asked questions

What is UptimeRankings.com?

UptimeRankings is an independent website that ranks business software by real-world reliability. We track 324 vendors across 22 categories, from POS systems and payment processors to booking and payroll software, and rank each category by how often vendors go down, how long outages last and how openly they report them.

How is this different from sites that show whether a service is down right now?

Outage trackers answer "is it down at the moment?". We answer "which vendor goes down least?". We keep every incident and every check over time, so you can compare vendors' track records before you choose one, not only after something breaks.

Where does your data come from?

Two places. First, each vendor's public status page, which we read every five minutes (230 status pages in total), importing every incident with its start time, resolution time, severity and affected components. Second, our own uptime checks of each vendor's login and customer-facing pages: 742 pages, checked every five minutes.

How is the reliability score calculated?

Each vendor gets a score from 0 to 100 over the last 90 days: uptime (40%), incident frequency (20%), average time to resolve (20%) and transparency (20%), which measures how often a vendor acknowledges outages our own checks detect. The full formula is on our methodology page.

How often are the rankings updated?

Continuously. Status pages and uptime checks run every five minutes, scores are recalculated several times an hour, and every page is regenerated when new data comes in.

Can vendors pay to rank higher?

No. Every vendor is scored by the same published formula. We earn money from affiliate links and clearly labelled sponsored placements, which are shown separately and never change a score or a ranking.

Why isn't a vendor ranked yet?

We only rank a vendor once we have at least 14 days of data. Vendors whose status page has been silent for over a year wait until our own monitoring has watched them for 30 days, because a silent status page can mean excellent reliability or under-reporting.
